About the artist - Liying Zhao:

Liying Zhao, China-born British Chinese, is a contemporary artist based in London with over 27 years of experience in artistic creation. She previously lived in mainland China, Hong Kong and Paris before settling in London from 2019. She graduated from China Academy of Art with a B.A. in 2002 and M.A. in 2009. From 2002 to 2014, she was an art lecturer in universities in mainland China and Macao. From 2019 to 2025, she was a columnist for the Hong Kong Visual Arts Magazine. She gave lessons at two workshops at UCL, London, in March 2026. She applied the psychological concept of Holism to art and developed her new style in London.

 

Liying specialises in creating artwork on linen, paper and board using a variety of mediums including oil, acrylic, charcoal, pastel, watercolour, Chinese ink and printmaking. She has participated in many national and international exhibitions, some in museums, in different countries, and has had a solo show in Hong Kong. Her artworks are collected by private collectors, art institutions and the China Academy of Art.
