About the artist - Derek Telfer:

Derek became an artist quite late in life. While recovering from a heart attack in 2017 at age 58, his partner Suzana gave him a beautiful travel book for Japan to look at, and also a Dremel rotary tool to get him active. Derek drew a Japanese landscape from the book on a piece of wood, carved it, painted it and loved creating it.

Derek is very inspired by Japanese and Chinese images, figures, traditions and icons, and also, following a commission in 2026, has produced a series of Jazz and Art Deco pieces.

Derek also carves wooden sculptures.

Derek has shown his artworks at the Wimbledon Art Studios

as well as the Worple Group.
