About the artist - Sue Rigg:
Sue was born in the North East of England, close to the North Yorks Moors and the beautiful coast. She moved to London to attend university and now lives in Wimbledon.
She loved drawing from an early age but it was not until 1991 that she started painting after taking a summer course in Florence during a career break.
Art became her passion and, on her return, evening classes and weekend workshops enabled her to satisfy her creative side. Easy access to the galleries of London inspired her and fed the desire to make art. She joined the local art society and exhibited and sold her work, but during the ‘working years’ it could not be much more than a hobby.
After retiring in 2017 Sue eagerly took courses at City Lit, Scola in Sutton and Putney School of Art, but none of these really satisfied her desire to paint more expressively. It was during the Covid lockdowns that she found a way forward - a 10 week on-line mixed media course run by artist Louise Fletcher called ‘Find Your Joy’. It changed her mind set and practice completely. After commencing a second course called ‘Find Your Voice’ she found herself painting intuitively and, by allowing the paintings to evolve, the wonderful landscapes of her youth appeared on the canvases.
Sue is currently painting in acrylic and mixed media on paper, canvas or wood panels but also loves working with soft pastel. She will continue to develop her processes and investigate abstraction further but at the heart of it all will remain her desire to express her love of and wonder at the beautiful world we inhabit.
She currently exhibits with the Worple Art Group and the Society of Fulham Artists and Potters.
